They were expected to be sitting
their end of semester exam, instead,
the University Of Nairobi students
took to the streets. They marched to
the Supreme Court led by their
newly elected student leaders to
protest the fining and file a request
for the release of their fellow
students who were arrested the
previous week. The twelve were
accused of threatening to use a gun,
and other crude weapons with an
aim to disrupt campus campaigns for
the student union leadership
positions. The striking students
claim that each of their colleagues
had been slapped with a cash bail of
2 million shillings. The students
further claim they did not have
enough time to prepare for the
exams owing to the recent university
staff strikes.
